Our Chosen Charity
Swindon175 is delighted to be supporting Brighter Futures
Brighter Futures is the hospital charity in Swindon
We improve the hospital environment, fund ground breaking research, support the development and training of hospital staff and provide state-of-the-art equipment.
Brighter Futures has launched a £2.9million appeal in order to bring cancer care closer to those living with cancer in Swindon.
So far we have raised more than £800,000 and are approaching the £1million point but we need your help to reach our total and to reach the first £1. 5million in order to purchase the first linear accelerator. The money raised will equip a new Radiotherapy Centre, to be built in Swindon on the site at Great Western Hospital.
Cancer affects 1 in 3 of the population
Cancer is the leading cause of mortality in England, and the incidence of new cancer cases is predicted to rise by 16% over the next 10 years.
Every year in Swindon and Wiltshire, more than 3,000 people are told the devastating news they have cancer.
This is eight people every day.
Bringing Cancer Care Closer
For too long local people in need of radiotherapy have had to make the long journey to Oxford for treatment.
Typically this means up to 40 trips to Oxford over the course of one to seven weeks. Not only does this mean patients having to endure long journeys at a time when they are unwell, it also means spending precious time travelling, rather than with loved ones.
Almost 700 patients travel to receive their radiotherapy treatment. This equates to around 10,000 journeys of up to 70 miles.
This is our once in a lifetime chance to support the biggest improvement in cancer care Swindon has seen in a generation. Brighter Futures needs to raise £2.9 million to equip a new Radiotherapy Centre in Swindon. Every donation counts and brings radiotherapy treatment a bit closer to home.
